Fastest Indian ODI century

Sehwag's Fastest ODI Century

By reaching his hundred off just 60 balls in the fourth one-day international against New Zealand on Wednesday, Sehwag established many records. We take a look:

Sehwag’s hundred is

  • the fastest by an Indian in New Zealand. The previous fastest was off 101 balls by Sachin Tendulkar in the previous match at Christchurch.
  • the fastest on New Zealand soil. The previous fastest was off 67 balls by New Zealand’s Craig McMillan against Australia at this same venue in 2007.
  • the fastest by an Indian in ODIs. The previous fastest was off 62 balls by Mohammad Azharuddin also against New Zealand at Baroda in 1988.
  • the fastest against New Zealand. The previous fastest was off 62 balls by India’s Mohammad Azharuddin at Baroda in 1988.
  • the second fastest by any batsman while chasing a target. Only Shahid Afridi (off 45 balls against India at Kanpur in 2005) has scored a faster hundred.
  • the seventh fastest off all time.
  • his fourth off 75 or fewer balls. Only Sanath Jayasuriya (5) has done so on more occasions.

The 60-ball hundred by Virender Sehwag on Wednesday is the fastest by any Indian batsman in ODIs. The previous fastest was made by Mohammad Azharuddin who took 62 deliveries to reach three-figure mark in 1988 also against New Zealand.
